Terms of Service

CommodoreCleanout is for people with a current Vanderbilt University affiliation — students, and by extension anyone with a working @vanderbilt.edu email address. Signup requires a @vanderbilt.edu address and email verification; accounts registered any other way may be removed. If you graduate or otherwise lose your Vanderbilt affiliation, you should wind down your active listings. You must be at least 18, or the age of majority where you live, to use the service.

We provide a venue: a place to post listings, browse them, and message other verified Vanderbilt users. That's it. CommodoreCleanout is not a party to any transaction. We don't hold items, process payments, take a cut, ship anything, or guarantee that an item exists, matches its description, or that either side will show up. Every exchange happens directly between two students, in person, on or near campus — you are responsible for your own deals, including agreeing on price, payment method, and pickup.

The service is currently free — no listing fees, no transaction fees. If that ever changes, we'll update these terms and tell you before anything costs money.

When you use CommodoreCleanout, you agree to:

• Post accurate listings — real photos of the actual item, honest condition, real price.
• Only list items you own and have the right to sell or give away.
• Show up when you commit to a meetup, or message the other person to cancel.
• Treat other users with basic respect (see the Community Guidelines).
• Not scrape, spam, impersonate others, or use the platform for commercial reselling operations.
• Not attempt to bypass the @vanderbilt.edu gate or access other users' accounts or data.

To seed the marketplace, we imported listings that were publicly posted in the "Reuse, Vandy!" GroupMe group. Those original posters have not created CommodoreCleanout accounts, and we make that clear on each imported listing (they're marked with the poster's GroupMe name and a GroupMe contact panel, not an in-app account).

If one of those imported items is yours and you want it removed, we will take it down promptly — no questions asked. Email admin@commodorecleanout.com with the listing title (or link), or use the "Report" / removal link on the listing page. Details on Remove My Listing. The same goes for updates: if the item already sold in GroupMe, tell us and we'll mark it or pull it.

Do not list, sell, or give away:

• Weapons of any kind, including knives beyond ordinary kitchen use, and ammunition.
• Alcohol, tobacco, vapes, drugs, or drug paraphernalia.
• Recalled, expired, or hazardous products (including opened food, medication, and damaged lithium batteries).
• Counterfeit or stolen goods, or items that infringe someone's IP (fake designer goods, pirated media, cracked software).
• Live animals.
• Anything whose sale or possession violates Tennessee law, federal law, or Vanderbilt University policy (including the Student Handbook's rules on what's allowed in residence halls).

We remove prohibited listings when we find them or when they're reported, and repeat offenders lose their accounts.

You keep ownership of the photos and text you post. By posting, you give CommodoreCleanout a non-exclusive license to display that content on the platform so the marketplace can work. Don't post content you don't have rights to. We may remove any listing or message that violates these terms.

CommodoreCleanout is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied — including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We don't warrant that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free, that listings are accurate, or that other users are who they say they are (email verification reduces, but does not eliminate, that risk).

To the maximum extent permitted by law, CommodoreCleanout and the students who run it are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss arising from a transaction between users — including no-shows, item condition disputes, payment disputes, or anything that happens at an in-person meetup. Since the service is free, our total liability for any claim is capped at $50. Some jurisdictions don't allow certain limitations, so parts of this may not apply to you.

You can delete your account anytime by emailing admin@commodorecleanout.com. We can suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, the Community Guidelines, or the law — with or without notice for serious violations (scams, harassment, prohibited items). Listings from terminated accounts come down with the account.

We may update these terms as the platform evolves. The "last updated" date at the top reflects the current version, and continuing to use the service after a change means you accept it. For material changes we'll make a reasonable effort to flag it in-app or on our Instagram.

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Tennessee, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute that ends up in court belongs in the state or federal courts located in Nashville / Davidson County, Tennessee.
