Do the handoff somewhere busy and well-lit: the Commons Center, Central Library / Main Library lobby, Rand, Highland, or a dorm lobby with a front desk. Daylight is better. Avoid meeting inside private rooms or off-campus locations with someone you've never met — even for a great deal on a futon.

For furniture, mini-fridges, or anything worth real money, bring a roommate — an extra set of hands for carrying and an extra person present. Tell someone where you're going and when. VUPD is at 615-322-2745 if anything ever feels wrong on campus.

Plug in the electronics. Open the laptop. Check the textbook edition and access-code status. Sniff the mini-fridge. Money changes hands after you've seen the item working — any honest seller expects this. If the item doesn't match the listing, you can just walk away; no deal is final until you hand over payment.

Use the campus norms: cash, Venmo, or Zelle, exchanged in person at the meetup. Red flags to refuse:

• Requests to pay a "deposit" before you've seen the item.
• Gift cards, wire transfers, crypto, or payment apps you've never heard of.
• Overpayment-and-refund schemes ("I'll send extra, Venmo me back the difference").
• Pressure to move the conversation off-platform before agreeing on basics.

No one needs your bank login, card number, SSN, Vanderbilt password, or two-factor codes to sell you a desk lamp. Anyone asking for those is scamming — stop responding and report them.

If a listing or a conversation feels off — fake-looking photos, too-good-to-be-true pricing, pushy behavior, anything prohibited — use the "Report this listing" link on the listing page or email admin@commodorecleanout.com. Reports are private and we act on them. One heads-up from you can protect the next student.

Listings marked as imported from the Reuse, Vandy! GroupMe were posted by real students in that group, but those sellers haven't made accounts here — you contact them through GroupMe, where the same rules apply: meet on campus, inspect first, pay in person. And if an imported listing is yours, you can have it removed anytime.
